The Public Affairs Office is responsible for the Press, Information and Cultural Services of the
Embassy. The Public Affairs Office is headed by the Counsellor for Public Affairs and assisted by the
Cultural Attache and the Press Attache of the Embassy.
The Press Section handles all relations between the Embassy and the Malaysian media, responds to
questions from the press, provides information on U.S. foreign policy and current issues to the media,
and arranges interviews with U.S. government officials and press coverage of Embassy events.
The Public Affairs Office sends the Washington File - a daily compendium of articles, transcripts
of speeches by President Bush and other high-level officials, and of White House, and State Department
Press briefings electronically to those institutions who request for it. The Public Affairs Office also
arranges satellite television interviews between U.S. officials or specialists in Washington and
government officials, academics and journalists in Malaysia through its "Worldnet" facilities at the
Embassy.
The Cultural Section administers a variety of educational exchange programs, including the
International Visitors Program, which sends invited Malaysian officials, academics and other
professionals to the United States to promote professional contacts and familiarization with the United
States. It also manages the U.S. Speakers and Specialists. Program, which brings U.S. experts in various
fields of U.S. life and society to Malaysia to participate in seminars and to exchange views with their
Malaysian counterparts.
The Public Affairs Office also supports the educational advising activities of the
Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE)
which administers various programs of educational exchange between the United States and Malaysia
including the well-known J. William Fulbright Scholarship Program, and provides information on study
in the United States.
The Lincoln Resource Center is
the research and reference service of the Embassy, specializing in current U.S. policy, legislation,
trade, social and culturalissues. The Center responds to queries from government officials, academics,
members of the media, and private citizens. It also updates the resources available via the
U.S. Embassy Homepage and maintains four LRC Electronic
Journals accessible via its Homepage.
